The HVAC industry is a popular industry for metal fabricators, partially because this industry requires workers with strong hand skills. The ventilation trade has drastically transformed over the last two decades. While in the past, opening a window was the primary way of airing out a space, ventilation has become crucial in buildings.
Consequently, ventilation systems are especially complex.
As a testament to how popular metal fabricators are in the HVAC industry, educational institutions like New Brunswick Community College offer HVAC sheet metal fabrication courses. Corey Laviolette is taking this course and appreciates the hands-on component of the course. In fact, his favorite project they’ve completed thus far is a curved duct line because it provided more of an on-the-job perspective of typical work in the field. A fellow student, Blake Caplin, feels that the trade has a lot of hand skills, and perfecting them can be a tricky component.
As of 2018, it was challenging to find qualified metal fabricators to employ in the sheet metal industry. In the HVAC metal sheet fabrication industry, there’s a lot of variety in tasks performed day to day. Consequently, there’s a wide spectrum of skills that must be learned.
