Pharmaceutical Packaging Plays a Major Role in the Industry

Pharma packaging

By 2014, according to research by Urch Publishing, the global pharmaceutical industry is expected to be worth more than a trillion dollars, which represents a continued yearly growth of around five percent. There are many different factors that contribute to that trend, but one of the overlooked aspects of the industry is packaging. Though pharma packaging can be a bit annoying, especially when you have a headache and don’t want to deal with struggling to get a pill out of its container, pharmaceutical packaging companies play an important role. Without the proper packaging services, medicines might not maintain their effectiveness when they rest in cabinets, so they are quite valuable.

In the United States, blister packaging, one of the most common options, is generally used to package unit dose pharmaceuticals. The pharmaceutical packaging companies who produce blister packaging have several different options to choose from. They could complete them with vinyl and use several different appearances that are opaque, tinted, or translucent. Plus, they might build “clamshell” packages that fold in on themselves. With so many options available, it should come as no surprise that nearly every pharmaceutical comes with its own unique and highly recognizable packaging.

Of course, pharmaceutical blister packaging is hardly the only option for pharmaceutical packaging companies. If they hope to be successful, they will have to offer a wide range of products that are able to meet the needs of several different producers. Many pharmaceuticals today are delivered in liquid form, and there are several pouch options that feature childsafe and strip seals. On top of that, pouches that are easy to rip open and dispose of can be quite convenient for consumers. Though liquids often come in bottles and can be taken out of medicine cabinets at a moment’s notice, they are certainly not the only option.

The pharmaceutical industry is comprised of a number of different types of professionals who all play different roles. However, without the proper packaging, they would all struggle to get the medicines they work hard to develop and sell to consumers. In the same way that food and other items go bad if they are not stored properly, the same holds true with pharmaceuticals. So packaging manufacturers play a big part in both driving the massive industry and helping to keep people healthy.
