Camouflage is Not Just for the Army

Pink camouflage clothing

When people think of camouflage, they probably do not remember the Camouflage band of the 1980s. The typical green, black, grey, brown puzzle-like Woodland pattern clothing that all branches of the U.S. military use is what typically comes to mind. While the U.S. Woodland pattern is the most popular, camouflage uniforms sometimes vary based upon the location of the military. The clothing is sometimes made to look more tan or brown for soldiers stationed in the desert. This is so that they can camouflage themselves well in case of attack, or keep out of sight as they approach enemy lines. Camouflage clothing is also used by hunters during hunting seasons to disguise themseles from game.

Humans are not the only ones who utilize camouflage to hide. Chameleons can change the shade of their skin to several colors to fit in with their surroundings. The flat-tail horned lizard does the same, which confuses its predators. While many animals and humans use camouflage for serious purposes, other people like the design for decorative purposes and style. Many places sell camouflage cargo shorts, pants, shirts, and camouflage bands that resemble sweatbands worn around the arms or forehead. They also sell camouflage purses in pink, blue, brown, and various colors, as well as wallets. Bedrooms can be designed with camouflage bed sets and army themed decor. Some people even fashion their car seats with camo seat covers.

There are hundreds of ways camouflage is used in the U.S. and around the world. This pattern used to be ear marked for military purposes only, but that has changed in the last few decades. Some people wear camouflage apparel to honor the armed forces, but it is mostly used recreationally. This style of clothing and accessories will likely continue to be a trend for many years to come.
